My Makeup Artistry Career Bucket List: Top 4

As a professional makeup artist currently in training, I thought I would like to share my career bucket list of all the things I aspire to practice in makeup. It includes all of my dreams and goals that I hope to have the opportunity to achieve within my makeup artistry career.

I love the makeup industry because of the inspiration gives me to keep on pursuing my dreams, while learning to enjoy life and improve my many skill sets. I also love this industry because it inspires other women (myself), as well as men, to be their most beautiful and confident selves and to set out to achieve every goal and dream that they have ever aspired to complete.

1. Fashion Show Makeup Styling

One day in my makeup lab class, my instructor told everyone in the room a story about what it was like to work on the makeup aspects of a fashion show. This person described it like it was the perfect dream to accomplish because of its challenging, but super fun and creative atmosphere.

In this type of makeup work, you get to push yourself beyond your comfort level with makeup and create even more amazing works of art. It helps you to be successful at things that you thought were never possible for you before.

Doing a model’s makeup for a fashion show is one of those moments I aspire to experience at least once in my makeup artistry career. To get a sense of the vibe and be an important part of a team of people who share the same excitement and passion for makeup as I do.

2. Learn to Apply SPFX Makeup

Learning SFX makeup, especially how to apply prosthetics to a person’s face for a special upcoming movie is another career-oriented goal that I have in mind. When I wrote my blog post about “what inspires me as a makeup artist”, learning SFX makeup techniques is one of those things.

I always get so excited watching all those crazy YouTube videos about people applying SFX makeup and prosthetics onto their models because I look like such a fun thing to do. The attention to detail here and the wide range of colour choices, fascinate me to no end.

I love watching these videos because they inspire me to keep on improving and to expand my skill offerings as a makeup artist. I think that even just one session of having to apply SFX makeup for someone is definitely a dream come true for me.

3. Perfect a Flawless Cut Crease

This one may take me a bit longer to get just right because it requires a lot of hours practicing with various eye shapes. A cut crease will create the look of contrast between vibrant colour combinations and symmetrical lines. I always browse through Instagram and Pinterest for makeup looks, especially those with cut crease eyeshadow looks.

When I come across the cut creases I feel inspired by the way they stand out and how they can change the shape of the actual eye. Cut crease eyeshadow looks are so beautiful in how they complete the whole makeup look and everything comes together in a more bold and creative vibrancy.

4. Airbrush Makeup

This one seems like it would be so much fun to learn because you literally just “spray” makeup onto your face and in seconds, you have a flawlessly finished makeup look. The makeup used in an airbrush machine also seems to be way better quality and you get to determine how heavy you want the makeup by determining how much you need to spray onto the model.

I love the aspect of airbrush makeup because it is so helpful when you are short on time, doing makeup for a photo shoot or for a model walking the fashion show runway.

All of these things on my makeup bucket list are the things that I want to have the opportunity to learn about and practice in real life as a professional makeup artist. Of course, there are more things that I want to add to this list and I will be regularly updating my bucket list as I learn more exciting and inspiring things about the beauty industry.

Makeup Career Education Bucket List

“There are just so many makeup skills and techniques that I want to learn. Each time I learn something new within the beauty industry, I am constantly building up my professionalism and service offerings. This gives me a competitive edge and a way to stand out on my own as a unique artist with special talents and skills to share with this beautiful world.”
