Have you ever wondered what you can do to sweat-proof your makeup to stop it from running down your face? I have struggled with this a lot lately, especially when it’s extremely hot outside.

I hate when this happens because my eyeliner runs down my face and doesn’t make my skin look that healthy.

I don’t want to look like this when I go out in public with my makeup on and make people assume I was just crying for no reason.

This is why I have recently been trying out a few new things and researching some good sweat-proof makeup tips and techniques.

10 Sweat-Proof Makeup Application Tips

  • Don’t use a heavy foundation for your face, it will melt away the moment you begin to sweat. Use a lightweight liquid foundation or opt for a powder foundation that will reduce the sweat on your face.
  • If you wear eyeliner under your eyes, it will most likely run down your face, especially if your eyes water in the heat. So, it’s best not to wear eyeliner on any day above 25 degrees Celsius.
  • Take care of your skin, with a really good skincare routine. This helps your skin look beautiful without needing to apply a foundation.
  • Lessen the amount of moisturizer you apply to your face since it has water in it and will mix with your sweat. This creates more sweat and a sticky feeling all day.
  • Avoid using eyebrow pigments, shadows and pencils. Use some coloured eyebrow gel instead. This will keep all your eyebrow hairs in place and won’t ruin your makeup.
  • Make sure not to use any lipstick or gloss if it comes off easily. When you need to hydrate, you will stain your water bottles with the messy lipstick ring around them.

What is worse? You could stain your mask, which would make the lipstick rub all over your face. Find a good lightweight lip colour that is long-lasting and won’t rub off easily, or just don’t wear any lipstick at all.

  • ALWAYS apply sunscreen, a good moisturizer with SPF 30+, a CC cream with added sunscreen protection, or a foundation that has SPF 50+ full coverage in it.
  • PRO TIP: Make sure your sunscreen products are labelled to protect you against both UVA & UVB sunlight rays. This will protect you against skin ageing and burns from the sun.
  • Limit your eyeshadow to one colour (or two colours if blended well). Applying it more often than that will run you the risk of sweating off more products.

Or, you could not wear any eyeshadow at all and just apply some glam false eyelashes for a simple, but glamorous look.

  • Apply a minimal amount of blush to give your face some colour and add a tiny bit of contouring and highlights.

How to Implement This Needed Skincare Routine for a 100% Sweat-proof Summer

It’s no fun to sweat constantly when your makeup runs down your face all day. I hope some of the suggestions in my list have helped you learn a bit about how to sweat-proof your makeup routine.

Of course, this is not an end-all, be-all list and you can add more of your sweat-proof makeup ideas or not use some of my suggestions. It’s totally up to you what you decide you want to do to handle a hot day makeup routine.

Also, you don’t have to wear any makeup at all. If you think it’s way too hot outside to be concerned with how your face looks, then go for the “no-makeup, “don’t care to look”!

Lastly, An Important Note About Sunscreen!

I cannot stress this enough: Wearing a really good sunscreen with both UVA/UVB protection that has at least an SPF+30 or more! On one of the hottest days of this year (with high UV ratings) I did the stupid thing of not putting on any sunscreen at all!

This was not a good idea by any means, since I got a second-degree burn from the sun that day!

How I deeply regretted not putting on sunscreen the moment I began to feel intense pain in my back! My boyfriend checked my sunburn and discovered that my skin was starting to blister and get worse!

He advised me to not go out in the sun for at least a week and just relax by taking it easy until the second-degree burn on my back healed.

I listened to him and was not about to test my chances by getting more sunburn any time soon.

So, I did what my boyfriend advised. I relaxed for about a week or so by laying around drinking lots of fluid and hydrating the burnt area of my skin. We also applied a lot of moisturizers and Aloe Vera After Sun Care (by Hawaiian Tropic).

It was not fun, because even putting the least amount of pressure on my burn caused me enough pain to scream in anguish! However, it had to be done if I wanted my horrible sunburn to heal and for the pain to go away.

always apply sunscreen.

Honestly, it took a full 3 weeks to fully heal with no pain or burnt skin showing on my back. After the first week, if we went out anywhere, I decided to wear a long-sleeve shirt, despite the weather to protect my sunburn so it would heal!

This is why I strongly advise wearing sunscreen whenever you go outside, even if it is overcast!

Trust me, you don’t want to have to go through the pain I did from my second-degree sunburn.

I hope this never happens to you, it was not fun!
