My Fantastic Experience Working at the Durham College Spa

In April of 2023, it was the end of the first academic year of my college esthetician program and into something bigger.

I applied to work at the spa for Durham College over the summer and waited in high anticipation.

Over the course of the next few days, I was selected to come in for two interviews. One was for a formal interview and the second was a skills interview where I was tested on my ability to successfully execute a pedicure service in all aspects.

Once I received my offer of employment and graciously accepted, I felt like I just achieved something super great and I was proud of the successful woman I’ve become thus far.

Working at the DC spa with real clients has allowed me to grow both personally and professionally in so many ways, with the support of an amazing team. The people I worked with supported me every step of the way, always encouraging me and giving me advice on how to improve.

It also gave me the opportunity to work in an environment that exudes professionalism in the cosmetics and esthetics industry. Offering many services such as skincare facials, waxing services and various manicures and pedicure services, I developed my professional skill set even further.

The thing that I enjoyed most about this amazing experience is that I got to see many different clients in different areas of their life journey and help them feel better about themselves and their skin.

The beautiful results that my clients received from having skincare facials were one of the main reasons why I thrived, which inspired me to love what I do. I became passionate about skincare products and how they worked on the skin to help with many different concerns.

I loved seeing my work reap the benefits, especially when someone came in with redness or inflammation on the face. Using Moor Spa products, I was able to reduce that redness by the end of the facial treatment. My clients left very happy and eager to come back in and see me for another facial treatment.

Most often, they would ask me “When I come back for another service, can I book with you?”

Another experience that I enjoyed while working at DC Spa was when my clients fell asleep during a facial. That made me feel so proud and accomplished of myself because it means that my clients are really enjoying their service and I was able to help them fully relax.

This experience helped me to continuously build upon my knowledge gained in the classroom and apply it to excellence through hands-on service performances.

Having the advantage of graduating from the Cosmetic Techniques and Management program (with honours) and then coming back to do the Esthetician and Spa Management program has given me a solid portfolio of skills.

Both of these programs have given me so much knowledge about makeup, skincare, spa treatments, client care, manicures, pedicures, waxing, and so much more that will surely help me to be on top of my game in the industry.

I value the time I have spent working at DC Spa as I have gained so much from working on clients, improving my skills and seeing the benefits and results from excellent spa treatments.

I want to take this time to acknowledge my wonderful team and all the people whom I worked with this summer at the DC Spa.

I am grateful for all of their efforts to develop my personal and professional skills as a student esthetician. I am so grateful that I was able to have such a positive and rewarding experience working with clients.

I am very excited to see what my second year as a student esthetician will have in store for me and the new skills and techniques I will be building upon.
